Resuming of Regular Flight to Shanghai

Regular International flights between Oita and Shanghai were resumed after the service was suspended for half a year under the influence of SARS. To commemorate this event, the Friendship Visiting Group organized by Governor Katsusada Hirose and those in the economic field in Oita visited Shanghai, making courtesy visits to governmental organizations in Shanghai and performing Oita tourism publicity activities.

Visit from Chinese Inspectors Group

The first group of inspectors from China visited Oita. This group was made up of 3 sub-groups from Beijing, Guangzhou and other cities. Inspection was held at Sanrio’s Harmony Land in Hiji City, as well as Ocean Hell and Blood Pond Hell in Beppu City.

Oita International Wheelchair Marathon
(Nov. 16, 2003)
The world’s largest wheelchair marathon celebrated its 23rd anniversary this year. This race was held on the Japan Association of Athletics Federation’s officially recognized course, starting from in front of the Oita Prefectural Government building and finishing at the Oita Athletics Stadium. 348 athletes from 20 countries and territories competed in this year’s event.

The Winds of Cameroon (Nov. 19, 2003)
“Cameroon no kaze” or “Winds of Cameroon” rallied for the Cameroon team in the football match between Cameroon and Japan held in Oita City. “Winds of Cameroon”, a cheer group for Cameroon composing of professional dancers, also visited Nakatsue village after the match and enjoyed a friendly communication session with local elementary school children. The village had been the training camp site of the Cameroon team for the FIFA World Cup in 2002.
