About recuperation in accommodation facilities for COVID-19 patients with mild or no symptoms

Aug 8, 2020

In response to the effects of COVID-19, it is necessary to impose a treatment structure where patients with mild or no symptoms are recuperated in accommodation facilities. This is to ensure that those with severe conditions or at higher risks can receive proper treatment in the event of heightened patient numbers across Oita’s medical facilities.
The Oita Prefecture has begun treating patients with mild or no symptoms at an accommodation facility from August 8. The summary is as follows:

1   Accommodation facility:
       COMODOHOTEL OITA , 1-2-1 Kanaike-machi, Oita City

2   Number of rooms:
170 (170 out of the total 239 rooms are used to accommodate patients with mild or no symptoms)
*The hotel has accommodated eight patients so far, including two newly admitted patients on Aug 15

3   Admission requirements:
Patients tested positive for COVID-19, with mild or no symptoms.
*Excludes elderlies and people with underlying health conditions.

4   Operational structure of the accommodation and treatment facility:
Daily health check-ups are conducted by staff. If a patient’s condition deteriorates, the staff will contact a
physician to receive further treatment instructions.

     *Physician: Responds on-callz
     *Two nurses: Stationed on-site
*Two staff members of the Oita Prefectural Government: Stationed on-site

Q&A:

Q1: Why are patients treated at the facility instead of their own homes?
A: To prevent infection spreading within households, we strongly recommend treating patients with mild or no symptoms
   inside of accommodation facilities.

Q2: How do patients travel to the facility?
A: They will travel to the facility on the Oita Prefectural Government’s dedicated vehicles.

Q3: Can patients go outside of the facility?
A: Patients are prohibited from leaving the facility and must remain inside of their own rooms for treatment. Food and
daily necessities will be delivered by the facility staff.

Q4: What are your in-facility safety precautions for infection prevention?
A: We have made the utmost effort in infection prevention, imposing measures such as separating the patients’
residential areas and receiving on-site guidance from experts.

Q5: Is there a possibility of patients infecting the staff?
A: The staff’s and the patients’ residential areas are separated, while health check-ups and other contact procedures
are performed over telephone. In other words, the two parties do not meet in person. On the rare occasion where the
staff must meet the patients directly or enter the patients’ residential area, they are to wear protective equipment
and take other measures for infection control.

*Please refrain from contacting COMODOHOTEL OITA for interviews or inquiries.
